THE MIND-READER TRICK
“say what they're thinking. watch the connection form.”
The Lesson
The most powerful persuasion trick: tell someone what they're thinking at the moment they're thinking it. Not emotions ('I know you're angry'). Actual thoughts. 'I know what you're thinking. You're thinking this sounds too good to be true.' If you're right, you create an instant connection that unlocks influence. How to know what they're thinking: body language, word choice, context clues. This works because when you correctly identify their private thought, you demonstrate understanding at a level that feels almost magical. Use in presentations, writing, sales. Any time you need to build trust quickly.
Real-World Example
A founder pitching investors. Midway through, say: 'I know what you're thinking. If this is so obvious, why hasn't someone done it already?' If that's what they were thinking, you've just created a bond. Now answer the question you surfaced. They feel understood, not sold to. The mind-reader trick turns adversarial pitches into collaborative conversations.
