FINDING YOUR ADVANTAGE

childhood obsessions. endless practice. genetic base. control the rest.

The Lesson

Four ways to find your competitive advantage: (1) Childhood obsessions. What did you do all day as a kid? Interest and talent correlate ~80%. Scott drew comics obsessively; it became his career. (2) Willingness to practice. Some activities you'll practice forever without forcing yourself. That's signal. (3) Genetic talent. Find something you're naturally good at, then build a talent stack around it. A great voice + communication skills + video editing = powerful combo. (4) Control the controllable. Fitness, appearance, effort. These are available to everyone but most don't bother. That's your edge.

Real-World Example

A founder asks: what's my advantage? Childhood: obsessed with games. Willingness: could practice game design forever. Genetic: naturally good at systems thinking. Controllable: started working out, dressing better. They build a talent stack: game mechanics + psychology + clean presentation. Now they're the 'gamification expert' no one else can be.
