KEY NUMBERS MASTERY
“memorize 3-5 key numbers in any domain. you'll be the smartest in the room.”
The Lesson
To be the smartest person in any room discussing a topic, memorize 3-5 key numbers. For national debt: $35T debt, $27T GDP, $1.4T annual deficit, $6.2T budget. Big items: Social Security $1.3T, Medicare $1.4T, interest $1T (now bigger than defense at $0.9T). Foreign aid is only $0.05T-cutting it solves nothing. Most people don't know basic magnitudes. Once you do, you can instantly see which solutions are mathematically possible and which are theater. This applies to any domain: know the key numbers and you'll see through nonsense.
Real-World Example
A founder enters a board discussion about cost-cutting. Others debate small expenses. The founder knows the numbers: 70% of costs are in three areas. They redirect: 'Cutting travel saves $50K. Renegotiating our top vendor contract saves $500K. Let's focus there.' Knowing the magnitudes made them the smartest person in the room.
